Creative Nova Scotia: How Arts and Culture Can Help Build a Better Nova Scotia

Date Set for Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference

Members of the arts and culture community are asked to mark their calendars for the fourth annual Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference to be held in Yarmouth on Oct. 24, 2009.

After holding successful Creative Nova Scotia Awards Galas and Conferences in Eastern Nova Scotian, Cape Breton and Halifax, the Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council offered the opportunity for a community in Western Nova Scotia to host the 4th annual edition of the Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference in fall 2009.

The call for proposals was circulated broadly to municipalities, community groups, arts councils and other community/ business groups and communities were encouraged to collaborate with groups in their area. Following the deadline for submissions of February 27, 2009, a sector committee selected Yarmouth as the winning proposal from a list of six communities vying for the opportunity to host the event.

The NS Arts and Culture Partnership Council (NSACPC) agreed that the Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference will be held in Halifax every second year and outside metro in alternating years. The outside metro events will alternate among western Nova Scotia, eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

The conference provides an excellent learning and networking opportunity, while the awards gala encourages and celebrates the pursuit of excellence by Nova Scotia artists.

More information on the fourth annual Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala and Conference will be made available during the coming months. Updates will also be posted on the partnership council's website at www.nsacpc.com

The Nova Scotia Arts and Culture Partnership Council, in consultation with the arts and culture sector, provides advice and recommendations to guide the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage regarding ongoing investment in Nova Scotia's artists, cultural industries and cultural activities.
